In “A Night in Venice” there is a confusing mixture of an image well known by western viewers – the typical gondolas found in Venice – and estranged other elements. On the left side there is a character with a human body and animalistic head, which is clearly inspired by Egyptian art. Using deep blue colors, Dominic creates an atmosphere which reminds the viewer of a romantic, yet diffuse, Venice by night. Blurred surfaces and sharp lines alternate each other, which makes the painting all the more ambiguous.
